Postcards: Helgoland to Den Helder

Submitted by jono on 02 Sep 2017.

Arms ache from pumping out of the Wadden Sea, a race against time before the tide turned. I kind of made it out in time. Open North Sea for a few days now. Here's a few unused pictures from the last week.

  • Helgoland stack "Lange Anna"
  • Helgoland gannets...
  • ...are very human tolerant (as are the Helgoland seals)
  • Langeoog, two nights here
  • Norderney: short beach stop here
  • The Frisian islands: long thin ribbons of sand dune that vegetation has turned into havens for nature
  • Salt marsh on the insides (south sides). This is Juist
  • Juist again. Sand dunes have become wooded
  • Front passing over. Wind arrived soon after
  • Harlingen
  • Harlingen beach - long walk to deep water
  • Scenery mostly distant and/or hidden!
  • In the Wadden Sea you sail when the tide permits: late arrival at Den Oever
  • Yella and Yup (phonetic approximation) at Den Oever
  • The Riddle of the Sands - more easily solved nowadays with GPS and OpenSeaMaps
  • Happy to pass behind this one...
  • Huisdiunen lighthouse
